Finally, the internationally recognized Yemeni president, Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, handed over power to a new leadership Council with full powers. This great development was met with cautious optimism, while some of the council's opponents went into a form of pessimism. Whatever the case, all moves toward political action remain hopeful, if its future practices are not based on repeating the mistakes that landed us in a conflict that seemed to be sustainable.
Hope also stems from the fact that this move comes as if it comes within the framework of broader arrangements, to mitigate the legacy of the war, and to recognize that a military solution is not possible, and everyone is looking forward to the new council’s main mandate to be searching for peace and calling for broader negotiations with the other party (Ansar Allah group - Houthis), where the atmosphere seems more favorable than ever.
Ansar Allah group (Houthis) is also concerned with reviewing their policies and keeping pace with the tireless moves towards peace. Policy in its healthy practices does not presuppose this form of intransigence. Eight years ago, we were on the same possibilities and discourse, and we have seen the devastating impact of this recalcitrance on the Yemeni nation and its spirit. Therefore, if this opportunity is not captured and strengthened, whether by reducing the inflammatory media discourse, or making a concession in favor of the hungry majority of the people, then a historical responsibility will fall on the group, and this country is ruthless in any case.
Then everyone should realize that this ongoing war caused years of heavy loss to the country’s infrastructure and its human and material components, and this can be clearly seen in the grim faces searching the sidewalks for whatever fills their souls. Those who do not realize it are the ones who are preparing for additional adventures and looking for victories! But which victories are those that come at the expense of the general national interest, and which victory is the one that snatches a living from the mouth of those who deserve it?!
No one wanted the formation of the Presidential Council in Riyadh, no one. However, the Yemeni decision’s exit and alienation, and even its dependence on the neighborhood, is one of the grave consequences of the war. Therefore, invoking patriotism makes it imperative for the people of the same country to stop division and fragmentation, and to go towards a formula for an acceptable political solution, on the basis of order, law, and equal citizenship.
The culture of bullying each other with weapons, overriding the rule of law by custom, and disrespecting the general framework of the state and the sanctity of its entity, will throw us and our country into the perils of the neighborhood, and the day has come when we listen to Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Muscat and Tehran, more than trusting ourselves and our citizens who yearn for food and the ballot box on the same level.
However, even with this alienated Yemeni moment, Yemeni leaders must learn to watch the leaders of the region prioritizing the interests of their countries over the desired interest of our country. How relations between the UAE and Tehran cannot be affected by the proxy struggle of these parties within our thickened arena. There is a level of dialogue between Iran and Saudi Arabia, as well as the historical relationship between Muscat and the latter, so why is our national interest is not valuable but at such cheapness?! It is enough for one of these warring parties to look back and see the moments in which he neglected the future of his country, in favor of the ambitions of his sponsors, to feel shame and disgrace forever.
