For six days, the whole world witnessed the devastation, shelling and displacement of the people of Gaza in the occupied Palestinian territories by the Israeli war machine, which used all prohibited and non-prohibited weapons to abolish homes and cut off the residents’ means of life, such as electricity, water, food and medicine. This Israeli escalation comes in response to the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation carried out by the Hamas movement and its ally, the Jihad Movement, which targeted the colonies (settlements) surrounding the Gaza Strip and some cities of occupied Palestine, which were rained down by rockets and missiles on October 7.
75 years ago, the colonial West conspired to establish a Jewish occupation state with a racist Zionist tendency in the heart of the Arab region on the land of Palestine. Over the following years, the occupying state worked to displace the indigenous population and abuse them in the areas of Arab 1948, Sheikh Jarrah, the West Bank, and Gaza, and to Judaize the Islamic areas in the cities of Jerusalem and Hebron. In addition, the government of the Zionist entity established a racial isolation wall between the Palestinian areas to dismantle the land and establish thousands of Jewish colonies (settlements) in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, ignoring all international resolutions taken since 1948.
Despite the issuance of dozens of international resolutions condemning successive Israeli occupation governments for killing, displacement, and occupation of others’ lands in the West Bank, the Golan, and southern Lebanon, and the Judaization of Islamic monuments and sanctities, and the issues of prisoners, these resolutions remained in ink and none of them were implemented due to Israel’s strength in the protection provided by the United States and Britain as well as some Western countries. As a result, Israel continued to persist and disavow all agreements with the Palestinians, most notably the Oslo Accords signed between the two parties in 1993 under American sponsorship, which clearly defined the features of the two-state solution.
In fact, the ongoing Israeli military operation, with its brutality and bloodiness, which amounts to genocide and ethnic cleansing, has exposed Western complicity and double standards in dealing with the Ukrainian and Palestinian cases. This requires Palestinians at home and in the diaspora to move towards a courageous settlement and end the division between the Palestinian factions. Because the biggest plan in this military operation is to execute the Palestinian case and displace the population to alternative areas in the vicinity.
The establishment of an international criminal investigative mechanism to investigate war crimes in the Gaza Strip and in the occupied Palestinian territories, within the framework of the mandate of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court, is a critical step immediately without delay in order to ensure that those responsible for war crimes are held accountable, in accordance with the Rome Basic Statute and in accordance with international humanitarian law.
In this difficult time, Palestinians and peace-loving peoples must adhere to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Charter of the United Nations, international humanitarian law, international human rights law, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, international legitimacy and international resolutions. Racist mobilization based on the hateful legacy of colonialism, the theory of political realism, and the narcissism of superiority must also be exposed.
Anti-war parties in the world must cooperate to condemn the brutality of the Israeli occupation and its inhumane practices against civilians because this will only lead to further escalation, hatred and violence in the whole region.
Further, the international community must push for an immediate ceasefire, stop the destruction and massacre, lift the siege, open humanitarian corridors, and facilitate the entry of aid to rescue the victims. Emphasizing the activation of diplomatic efforts in a way that moves the stagnant waters in the event of negotiation, and leading to a solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with the Arab Initiative 2002, which stipulates that the Arabs accept the two-state solution on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital, and emphasizing the international consensus on resolving the Palestinian issue, through diplomatic means and in a manner that guarantees preserving the rights of Palestinians, including the right of return.
