Artificial intelligence is the intelligence of machines or software, as opposed to the intelligence of humans or animals. It is a field of study in computer science which develops and studies intelligent machines dedicated to solving cognitive problems typically associated with human intelligence, such as learning, creativity, and image recognition. Modern organizations collect large amounts of data from a variety of sources, such as smart sensors, human-generated content, monitoring tools, and system logs, for re-analysis to produce multiple visualizations to solve a problem. Therefore, artificial intelligence is considered a revolution in the modern era, as many people use it in various scientific and practical fields, and its use raises a wave of terror among labor in many fields, fearing that it will replace humans.

Artificial intelligence has an intelligent program that has the talent to simulate human intelligence in making decisions, carrying out tasks, and answering questions and inquiries, even complex ones.

This field was founded on the assumption that the faculty of intelligence can be described accurately, to the point that a machine can imitate it. This raises a philosophical debate about the nature of the human mind and the limits of scientific methods, and about the nature of human intelligence and how to simulate it technologically.

Multiple uses of artificial intelligence

In this context, some male and female students at universities and schools are resorting to using artificial intelligence in their educational context to help them obtain answers and information accurately and quickly. One of the students, Zaher Al-Kurdi, an engineering student at the University of Taiz, who spoke to “Khuyut” about the reasons for resorting to artificial intelligence, where he said: “I believe that I got merely basic and simple information in the computer programming courses as well as most of the programs, so I rely on some AI apps like chat GPT and pop program for additional information".

For his part, Hussam Saeed, a student at Taiz University, told Khuyut: “I use artificial intelligence in the field of translation from Arabic to English, but I do not rely on it in matters related to the specialization of mechatronics and robotics engineering.”

Some male and female students in universities and schools use artificial intelligence via WhatsApp bots to obtain some information and ask questions or submit inquiries.

In a related context, Mohammad Al-Dakhaini, a student in information technology system at Taiz University, said in an interview with “Khuyut” that: “I often use artificial intelligence via WhatsApp to obtain information in various aspects, such as atomic physics and the origin of the universe only, but as for the rest of the information, I do not rely on it because it is not providing accurate information."

Inaccurate solutions

The majority of information provided by AI are not accurate, especially those related to multifaceted issues, or historical events that need to be validated.

This is confirmed by Al-Kurdi, who added: “I do not rely primarily on artificial intelligence, because most of the information it provides is incorrect, especially in complex accounting issues that depend on accurate tables and data, and therefore the solutions it provides are not truthful. It tries to understand a little of the available data then provides a solution which based merely on it."

It is worth noting that some students tried to obtain information through artificial intelligence in their courses, but they often encountered incorrect information provided by the application.

It is possible to benefit from artificial intelligence information. However, the information seeker must be careful and not take this information as absolute facts in order to avoid falling into the trap of deception or miscalculation, as these applications through which the information comes are still in the development stage, and cannot provide accurate and reliable information in all cases.

Misinformation trick

“It is possible to benefit from artificial intelligence information, but one must be careful and not take this information as absolute facts, in order to avoid falling into the trap of misinformation or error. These applications are still in the development stage, and it cannot provide accurate information in all cases.” Saeed said.

For his part, the expert in artificial intelligence, Salah Al-Din Al-Mohammadi, in an interview with Khuyut, warned against using artificial intelligence in academic courses without verifying the accuracy of the information it provides. Noting that the information provided may be inaccurate or unreliable, and artificial intelligence may provide fabricated sources for some of this information, this requires additional effort from all those who use artificial intelligence to research and investigate whether this information is correct or not. In addition, it is also important to master how to deal with the application of artificial intelligence in a professional manner, as lack of professionalism in dealing with artificial intelligence may not lead to the desired result.

Many educators express their opposition to students using artificial intelligence in education, as Amira Mustafa, an English language teacher at Na'amat Rassam School in Taiz, explained some of these reasons, saying: “I am in conflict with the use of artificial intelligence in education, because it accustoms students and teachers alike to neglect and laziness in educational attainment. Consequently, the educational process turns into a big trap in which information comes from unreliable sources. Additionally, AI may cause some damage to conservative environments, especially in light of the failure of the concerned authorities to play their role in controlling it, in addition to those fears related to technology replacing humans.”

Similarly, Mr. Abdullah Saeed, a teacher at the Martyr Abdu Mohammad Rajeh School, who spoke to “Khuyut” about the preference of using traditional curricula in obtaining information and developing knowledge of the learners by saying: “The use of artificial intelligence in education may turn students into mere recipients of information, which hinders the development of their mental and cognitive skills and abilities. In contrast, the traditional curriculum focuses on building the student’s basic knowledge and skills, and developing the proficiency of researching, measurement and observation.” He confirmed.

Further, Dr. Yahya Al-Atwani, a professor of social media, believes that using artificial intelligence in education is a good thing, provided that it is not completely relied upon. As it may cause information harm to students in terms of misleading and provision of inaccurate information it offers especially in light of students’ limited attentiveness. In a statement to Khuyut, he stressed the need to optimally exploit the advantages of what technology offers for the benefit of knowledge construction that includes multiple sources of information.

Furthermore, Dr. Mujeeb Al-Humaidi, professor of social media, at the Faculty of Arts, Taiz University, agrees with Dr. Al Atwani, as he stated to Khuyut, saying: “Traditional books and references have their value, but we should not feel afraid of digital books and references, as long as it is subject to the practical conditions that must be understood and focused on when using artificial intelligence as a source of information.”.”

Al-Humaidi stressed on the need for higher educational institutions to train students on dealing with digital books, methods of research in the digital world, particularly on how to evaluate sources of information, and developing the abilities to access, analyze and evaluate useful knowledge.

It is accepted that new generations are more consenting of digital books and references given that they live in a digital media environment that has imposed itself on all aspects of life.
